About Black Octopus
Consciously Created Eco-Friendly Jewellery

I draw inspiration from the concept of feminine strength and strive to embody it in my designs. I’ve always leaned away from the mainstream and focus on creating minimal and wearable eco-friendly jewellery pieces that truly reflect your individuality. I’m a strong believer that luxury can be affordable, and with a focus on quality and durability I aim to make staple jewellery pieces that will be treasured for a lifetime.
My Vision

Meet the Maker
I’m Kate - owner, creator, maker, packer & everything in between. It’s just me, myself and I working out of my small but lovely home jewellery studio in Warwickshire. I live with my very handy carpenter husband and our two young daughters.
Black Octopus Jewellery - It’s just me!
Where it Started
After making the scary but liberating decision not to return to my corporate life following my second maternity leave, I knew I needed to find a career direction that would allow me to feel in control of my work-life, whilst balancing it around the needs of my young family.
Silver-smithing started as a lockdown hobby, but quickly became both a passion and an outlet for my creativity that I didn’t know I was missing. I finally decided to take the plunge and in 2024 Black Octopus Jewellery was born. I focused my efforts on building an eco-friendly jewellery business, creating handmade pieces designed to last.

My Mission: A Commitment To Eco-Friendly Jewellery
I’m dedicated to building my business with environmental responsibility at the forefront; creating eco-friendly jewellery with a focus on sustainability. I work entirely with recycled silver, melting down all scraps and offcuts to be reused. My custom Black Octopus Jewellery packaging is designed to be robust but also recyclable, and in many cases even compostable.
Ethical Sourcing
A central aspect of my commitment to sustainability is sourcing materials and suppliers that minimise harm to the environment.
-
Recycled Metals
I only buy recycled silver and gold, from suppliers with their own environmentally conscious policies. This is a more sustainable approach, reducing demand for precious metal mining which can have a huge environmental impact (when not done responsibly).
I re-use all of my metal, with nothing wasted – all the way down to the dust!
-
Paper-Based Packaging
My paper-based boxes & gift bags are made from recycled materials, designed to transport & store your jewellery safely. If no longer needed, they are recyclable, biodegradable and compostable, whilst also providing a sturdy and air-tight home to keep your jewellery looking newer for longer.
If local to me, I’ll take any unwanted (as-new condition) packaging back for re-use too!
Find out more about packaging and gift-wrap options here.
-
Handmade in England
All Black Octopus Jewellery is handmade by me in my small home studio in Warwickshire. My suppliers and production partners are all UK based (and the majority locally to me), reducing additional transportation & the associated carbon emissions.
-
Made to Last
I only use Sterling Silver and Gold to create high-quality jewellery designed to be treasured for a lifetime. I’ll always endeavour to restore or repair any damage or wear, with the aim that no Black Octopus Jewellery should ever end up in landfill.
Tips on how to best care for your jewellery can be found here. For any repair enquiries or more information on how to restore your Gold Vermeil jewellery, please just drop me a message here.
-
Affordable Luxury
I believe that eco-friendly jewellery options should be available to everyone, and luxury doesn’t have to cost the earth. By making my handcrafted jewellery in small batches and dispatching straight from my studio, I aim to keep my overheads low so I can keep my pricing fair and transparent.

Looking Ahead
I’m always looking for new ways to make my business more sustainable and responsible. I love to feel that I’m part of a community that are aligned with these values too- so please do share any feedback or suggestions for how we can move forward with this together here.
